MI Fish Pole
February of 2020,
I was approached to help in the process to brand MI Fish Pole. The project extends from the MI Buck Pole brand that was established in 2012 and has continued to grow since then. MI Buck Pole allows hunters from all over Michigan share their photographs and knowledge of hunting through their website and social media. It is a community of like-minded people that enjoy sharing their successful hunts. MI Fish Pole has the hopes to establish and grow a community of fishermen and fisherwomen from the state of Michigan as they have done for the hunters and huntresses.
MI Fish Pole should accompany the MI Buck Pole brand and image. I believe this is important for MFP to grow an engaged following quickly and effectively. At the time of the project, MBP has established a brand with over 177k “likes” on Facebook along with 21k “followers” on Instagram.
A large amount of Michigan hunters are also fisherman, and having a logo that relates to MBP ties the companies together and will have the ability for potential customers to trust a newly created brand because of the established brand they already know and love.
MI Fish Pole requires a logo that caters to all types of fisherman. One of the ways to combat this challenge is to avoid using any elements that relate to a specific fish species, fishing lures, or imagery. It will need to be easily recognizable and versatile for future use on a variety of applications.
RELATION TO PARTNER COMPANY
MI Fish Pole has a more modern sans serif typeface with plenty of room to be legible at smaller scales. The logo utilizes the basic element of fishing that all types of fisherman use, a hook. The hook has been stylized to follow the geometric forms of the typography.
Brand awareness
One of the ways that MI Fish Pole will continue to gain brand awareness is through community members buying and wearing merchandise that represents the brand. Included with designing a logo, assets were created that would be used on a variety of garments ranging from t-shirts, coats, and hats. When looking at the market, it was important to appeal to different types of fishermen and women. To do this in a broad sense, they were split into two groups. The lake fisherman, and the river fisherman.
Color Sample 1: The Lake Fisherman

Use of bright colors in relation to beaches, summer, bright blue water, and sky.

Color Sample 2: The River Fisherman

Use of darker colors in relation to the forests and murky/muddy waters that one will notice when fishing from the bank or wading into the river.

Design Assets
The following are design assets to be used on a variety of garments.
