Helping People Help People:
Since its inception in 2006, the Catholic Community Foundation of Mid-Michigan has been helping people help others through gifts that serve programs and ministries provided throughout the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw and beyond. Shortly after his arrival in the Diocese of Saginaw in February 2005, Bishop Carlson asked that a legal entity be created that could securely hold funds donated by the people of the diocese. His request was that funds be invested in a socially responsible manner, in investments that are consistent with the values and principles of the Catholic Church. The result was the creation of the Catholic Community Foundation of Mid-Michigan, (better known as the CCFMM) a non-profit corporation.
The Project:
CCFMM was in need of an updated website for their users. Primary website users include Board Members, Grant Seekers, Current/Potential donors. Other users include Community leaders and the members, staff, volunteers and leaders of Catholic parishes and schools.
The Problem:
• The website somewhat meets the needs of its users, but requires too much effort for the user to
find information.
• The majority of respondents did NOT find the website to be visually appealing and shared
specific suggestions for improvement.
• The majority of respondents found the information on the website easy to understand and
trustworthy, yet suggestions were shared regarding font size.
• Ten detailed suggestions were shared regarding how the website could be made better. Key
themes include more pictures, use real people and share current stories, less clutter (move
details to a resource section), make it cleaner and easier to navigate, make content reflect the
good work that is accomplished through the Foundation.
• The website’s general color scheme and structure are considered pleasant, but boring. Nothing
draws the viewer in. The site received positive notes for being linked to the diocesan website
and making DONATE NOW an obvious and quick link.
• Many respondents urged that as soon as the data is collected, move forward with construction
of a new website.
Meeting their needs:
The following are mockups for a updated look and website for CCFMM. It was important to first show an overall look of the Homepage, stories page, and Single Story pages. These layouts were approved and construction was completed of the website in 2017.
